About us
We are a small Society, looking to develop in a steady way. We are always interested in new ideas for increasing local control of energy generation. We registered as an Industrial & Provident Society (Ben Com) because it gives us a Nationally recognized structure and a safe legal and financial framework within which to organize our members and assets. Because these rules are also used by much bigger Societies, they are rather long! If you would like them emailed to you, please contact us at [email protected], or phone Helen Gundry on 01751 432447.
As a "Ben Comm" society, the benefit to the community is a fundamental part of our existence. This benefit happens in several ways. Firstly the reduction in carbon footprint by the use of solar power instead of fossil fuels. Secondly the reduction in fuel bills for those people living or working where our panels are installed. Thirdly the opportunity to invest and get a reasonably good dividend. Fourthly we have established a small community fund which we can use for community energy projects. In 2016 one of our founder members, David Morris, sadly passed away. Part of his legacy is the investment he had in our Society. His dividend and capital paybacks now go to our Community Fund. We are looking into an opportunity to use some of this for a much valued local voluntary group in 2016, more details soon!
Our strength is in our Members. The more active members we have, the more we can achieve. To become a member, you need to have a £1 share in the Society, or to be part of our annual Share-Offer. Each member has one vote, no matter how big a financial share they have. To become a member you also need to complete an application form and your application has to be considered and accepted at a Society Board Meeting.
If you would like a copy of our rules, and/or a membership application form, please contact us:-
