Currently we have three Directors, two are Founder Members of the Society, and June took over from Paul Brewster in 2015. All three directors are volunteers.
Nelly Trevelyan
It was Nelly's many contacts and creative thinking that led to the starting of our Society. She is also a founder member of Appleton-le-Moors Community Energy Company, which operates a woodland and wood fuel scheme. For years Nelly and her husband Philip ran a North York Moors sheep farm. Solar PV panels and and wind turbines, supported the energy needs of the farm, and also of Yorkshire Organic Millers, who process grain and sell flour on the premises. Nelly was also an elected Liberal Member for Ryedale Dsitrict Council from 2003 - 2007.
The farm now handed down to their son, Nelly has more time for art, music, gardening and supporting our society. Nelly is an active member of Kirkbymoorside Environment Group, and is currently promoting discussion of Biochar.
June Emerson
June has for many years run a sheet music company called June Emerson Wind Music, where she employs family members and trusted friends in a thriving concern. She has a life-long love of music, plays the bassoon, and often performs or plays with friends, both in the UK and abroad. June is a founder member of Kirkbymoorside Environment Group, and has been involved in numerous projects connected with this. June is also an artist, and a much loved friend of many people.
Petra Young
Petra is originally from the Netherlands, and has worked in North Yorkshire for 15 years now, where she met her husband Martin. She worked for 4 years for the North York Moors National Park Authority as funding adviser, and now since the birth of her daughter, has carried on this career at Forest Enterprise, with much involvement in the development of the facilities of Dalby Forest.
and our Company Secretary, also a volunteer, is Helen Gundry
Helen spent 20 years in the voluntary sector in Hull, mostly time spent working with children and young people on North Hull Adventure Playground. She also established a business there in property lettings. Helen is now based in Kirkbymoorside with her young family. Joining Kirkbymoorside Environment Group.in 2008, has led her into various projects including Moorsbus.org and the Ryedale Cycle Forum.
